It might surprise you to find out you needn’t freeze your toes off in the Arctic to get a view of the infamous Northern Lights, and you needn’t settle for only a glimpse off the North Scottish coast either. You can gaze upon one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural phenomenon from the luxury of a floating hotel spa.

The Vulkana is a 12 berth (not including crew) fishing vessel. Now, a fishing vessel may not sound like your idea of a luxury getaway, but while she may not be your typical 5 star hotel, she has so much to offer in terms of that quirky, niche and adventurous quality that turns a holiday into a once in a lifetime experience. The Vulkana has been modified to include a wood fired sauna with panoramic windows, a saltwater on-deck hot tub, a Turkish steam bath, a glass roofed Zen lounge with fireplace as well as double bed cabins.

She cruises through the Nordic waters of the Lyngen Alps, the Lyngen Fjord and along the Yttensia coastline, notorious for the surrounding mountain ranges blanketed in snow – perfect for skiing ventures and the most breath taking backdrop to accompany a relaxing spa getaway. The Captain is known to adjust the route according to weather data to ensure the optimal outcome of every cruise and to guarantee a view of the Aurora Borealis on the Aurora Cruise.

The crew offer a variety of different cruises. You can dock up at the bottom of a mountain and take the day to go skiing, or mountaineering. You can relax and unwind in the spa, followed by gourmet dining. If you’re feeling brave enough you can take a refreshing dip in the Arctic Ocean, safe in the notion that the hot tub is waiting. Depending on the size of you group you can hire out the entire ship or take the opportunity to meet other like-minded people staying on board.

The Vulkana really is your oyster and no matter what you choose you are guaranteed a well-rounded, unique adventure experience.
