Madagascar is located off the east coast of Africa, home to some of the many species of Lemur, Chameleons and the Fossa. The landscape can be quite barren with the fire resistant Baobab trees in some areas and others very lush with rice paddies. The best time to visit for your holiday rentals are between April and October.

While visiting the town of Ranohira, Isalo in Madagascar we stumbled upon Berny’s restaurant which serves local and organic produce as well as different homemade rums. The meals come prepared on hot grill plates bubbling hot.  One of the sweet delights on offer is banana flambé, watch as the liquor is sprayed over the dish and the banana comes alive with blue and red dancing flames.  After finishing our meal we discovered that there is also a hotel out the back. Now having seen some of the hotels and accommodation in Madagascar I wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary.

It was dark by this time, on went the head torch. Taking steps in trepidation.

I rubbed my eyes in disbelief! Stood before me was this huge French chateau. The pristine beige granite stone building with wooden carved detail doors stood towering over us. It was like it had just been built yesterday!

We got to see the three different room type’s available twin, double and family. Each had their own private facilities including shower, wash hand basin and toilet. All rooms immaculate with quirky hand towel hangers made from Zebu horn (Madagascan Cow). The modern rooms are laid out well with ample space, fully tiled floors and big comfortable beds.

As well as this Hotel Berny, has a private park located 8km south of Ranohira called the “Oasis”. The 50 acres comes with its own pool and waterfall and only 10km away from the national park where you can see the ring tailed lemur. From “Oasis” to the National park you can pre-order a taxi to get there or drive if you have hired a car.

Another holiday let is Dadamanga a beach front holiday villa, situated in Fort Dauphin still in the Toliara province.  More holiday lets can be found in Nosy Be. Nosy Be is an island situated off the north coast of Madagascar or if you fancy something completely different what about renting a catamaran?  Catamaran Blue Maki croisiere is available at just over £4000 per week, accommodation on-board consists of four bedrooms and four bathrooms sleeping up to eight persons.

The sunsets in Madagascar are some of the most spectacular I have ever seen and with no light pollution the stars shimmer and twinkle in the evening sky, a great place to try astrophotography. As well as being dark it’s also very quiet!

Hotel Berny has been rated on trip advisor and also in the Lonely Planet’s guide book for Madagascar.

If you have travelled to Madagascar or found a niche escape holiday rental, then we would love to hear from you.
